James Ryan Chappell, known to most as Jimmy or Chappy, was born January 9, 1983 in Corona, CA. Raised in Norco by his parent, James & Susan, he has 5 sisters and 1 brother. In his short 29 years he became the man that he always hoped to be and so much more; a soldier, an officer, a husband, a father, a friend, and a devoted American.
In 2003 at 20 yrs old Jimmy joined the Army Reserves. He was deployed to Iraq in April 2004 for 12 months & again in May 2006 for 10 months. Throughout his career he was given many awards and recognitions including 3 Army Commendation Medals and had earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. In addition to the Army, Jimmy was also a correctional officer for the CA Dept of Corrections. He worked at CSPLA in Lancaster for a year and a half before being transferred to Pelican Bay in February 2012.
Jimmy’s first and only bike was a 2002 Honda CBR600. He absolutely loved riding and would never want anyone to stop because of his accident. His untimely death was the result of a careless driver who made an illegal lane change directly into his path. Jimmy’s death has left a huge void in this world that no one could ever fill. He leaves behind his wife Megan and their 4 children; Alexis 8, Erika 6, Lucas 2 and sadly he was never able to meet his youngest daughter Evelyn who was born 2 months after he died. He is missed every second of every day and in the words of his wife on his grave marker, “Your Smile Changed the World”
